English Furnishings was established in 1960 by Leslie Haswell English, a time served upholsterer having served his apprenticeship at Newcastle Breweries upholstery workshops. Over the years he developed contracts with the likes of Vaux Breweries, Fenwicks, Newcastle United FC and the NHS, initially supplying everything from carpets, curtain materials and a full range of upholstered furniture.

In 1998 Les’s son Jonathan took over the reins after training and working as an upholsterer since leaving school. We moved to our present premises on the Coopies Lane Industrial Estate in 2006 after previously being sited in the Borough Hall, Wellway, Morpeth – which was built by Les’s Great Uncles – Haswells of Morpeth.

Nowadays we still specialise in refurbishing antique upholstered furniture but offer a full range of services, including producing suites from scratch using bespoke hardwood frames,

We pride ourselves in being as flexible as we can to the customers needs – for example booking your piece in for refurbishment whilst you take a holiday, or taking work away from your house while other work is taking place.
